Water Energy WasteESSCA Shanghai is pleased to announce that the 1st Shanghai Workshop on the ‘Energy-Water-Waste Nexus’ will take place on Sunday 5 June 2016. The objective of this new event series is to bring together municipal policymakers from China and Europe as well as business and civil society stakeholders.

The first workshop will focus on Practices and Solutions in the Field of Water Management. The EU-Asia Institute at ESSCA School of Management, together with its partners, promotes knowledge exchange on the water management among governments at the municipal level under the Framework of the 2nd Transoceanic Water Source Summit. In this perspective, the workshop will welcome both the Shanghai Municipal Water Authority and the Hamburg Municipal Government.

China is facing great challenges of both water shortage and serious water pollution. The State Council released China’s Water Pollution Control Action Plan earlier this year to combat illegal sewage discharge and to promote innovative treatment technologies. Shanghai, as the largest and most populous city in China, is at the forefront of providing innovative solutions for municipal water management.

While Shanghai has tackled the challenge since the 2010 World Expo ‘Better City – Better Life’, the city of Hamburg has been prioritising sustainable water management since becoming the European Green Capital in 2011 and many other cities across the globe face similar challenges.
