Space Commercialisation and Business Opportunities

Date: Monday 7 - Tuesday 8 April 2025
Convener: Antonella Forganni - Space Policy Research Group - EU*Asia Institute at ESSCA School of Management
Venue: ESSCA Bordeaux (5 place d'Armes, Bordeaux) & online via TEAMS

Previous editions of the Space Policy Workshop have focused on topics such as space commercialisation and space sustainability. These events have resulted in special issues of peer-reviewed journals such as Space Policy and several books published by Routledge, including the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of Space Policy (edited by Thomas Hoerber, Mariel Borowitz, Antonella Forganni, Bruno Reynaud de Sousa).

Building on these discussions, the 17th Space Policy Workshop will focus on the economic potential of the space sector and the multiple opportunities it offers to businesses as well as to civil society - including non-profit organisations and individuals - as long as space projects are carried out in a sustainable way.

The call for papers for is now closed.

We are grateful for the enthusiastic response and the wide range of submissions received on the following topics:

  • The economic impact of the space sector at global, regional or national level
  • New business opportunities emerging from the commercialisation of space
  • The roles of individuals and NGOs in the space economy
  • SMEs versus dominant players in the space sector
  • Space enterprises and corporate social responsibility (CSR)
  • Public-private partnerships in the space sector

The programme will be published shortly. Stay tuned for updates!
