The latest volume in the series 'Routledge Studies on the Governance of Sustainability in Europe' (edited by Thomas Hoerber) was developed by Christoph Weber and Marjorie Tendero as part of the work of the EU*Asia Institute at ESSCA on sustainability in Europe. It provides a comprehensive analysis of how sustainability affects internal decision-making and external relations within the European Union and contributes to the understanding of the EU's long-term goal of a climate neutral Europe by 2050.
The book build on the concept of 'European environmental conscience', which emphasises the perception of environmental degradation as a driving force for growing public awareness, shared responsibility and institutional action. This concept is explored as a catalyst for deeper European integration and the promotion of a collective European identity.
Divided into three parts, the book includes contributions from a variety of authors, covering the influence of sustainability on the EU's external relations, the rise of green finance and sustainability-oriented financial regulation, and the role of innovation and knowledge transfer in promoting sustainability.
This book is an essential resource for scholars and students of environmental economics and policy, sustainability governance, green finance, climate and energy policy, European studies and international relations.
